The Washington Post reported on this tragedy — an employee of a local business dialed 911 for medical help, but was unable to communicate. No one responded to his office and 10 hours passed before someone found his body lying on the floor.

Emergency personnel arrived at the wrong address, could not find anyone in distress and left the scene, believing the 911 call was unfounded.

Emergency calls made from corporate phone systems that serve a large enterprise are sometimes coded to a single street address. Tracing the precise location of a call within a large building or on a campus is a problem first responders have struggled with for years.

This incident should serve as a wake-up call for your business.

Immediately check your phone system to ensure 911 calls from any building, room, or suite can be traced to that exact location so emergency assistance can arrive in the shortest amount of time.
