News You Can Use – Dial 988 for the Suicide and Mental Health Crisis Lifeline

The Maryland General Assembly has passed legislation that provides ongoing financial support for Maryland’s hotline. Launched a year ago, the 988 Lifeline makes it easy for people in crisis to find the resources and support they need.

The 988 Lifeline provides:

  • Free, confidential 24 x7 support for people in distress
  • Prevention and crisis resources for you or your loved ones
  • Best practices for professionals in the United States

The 988 Lifeline — previously called the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline — had been ten digits long until a new federal law required the change to dial 988 and expanded the service to include support for other mental health concerns.

People can call, text, or chat for support. Just looking for information or resources? 988 counselors are available to help anyone who needs support.
