The Maryland School for the Blind provides outreach, education, and residential programs to support children who are blind or visually impaired, including those with multiple disabilities.

The school — with multiple buildings across its 95-acre campus — realized that its old phone system wasn’t keeping up. With no support for E911, school staff had to rely on walkie-talkies whenever emergency responders were called. The school wanted a system with online management, better reporting, mobility, and more up-to-date capabilities.

Chesapeake experts designed and installed Mitel’s 3300 IP communications platform to help the school serve their students better and keep everyone on campus safer.

Mitel’s E911 system features ‘ER Advisor,’ which gets the word out across campus whenever help is needed. It simultaneously calls 911 and the school’s main PC phone consoles, sends text and email alerts, and rings designated mobile phones to notify medical staff and administrators. E911 pinpoints the call location down to the classroom or residence.
